C is for Cookie
I’m not usually a cookie guy. I like cookies, but when surrounded by lemon mousse cakes, tiramisus, chocolate tortes, etc. cookies start to look a little
dull. But today, when I stopped into Green Fields Market for a snack, I felt like a cookie. So I bought six.
With exceptions (e.g.: Morovian cookies), I don’t think of cookies as being difficult to make. Made from few ingredients they don’t require proofing, water baths, or any exotic cooking techniques. So, if cookies are so simple, how can they be made great?
Ingredients: The ‘Three Cees Cookie’ (top photo) is loaded with shaved Coconut, dried Cranberries, and chips of Chocolate. Not much else. They took high qualtiy ingredients and didn’t screw them up. Perfect.
Innovation: The ‘Mexican Icebox Cookie’ (pictured) is a simple chocolate icebox cookie sprinkled with large granules of sugar. Simple, basic, tasty, but nothing specia…
WAIT A MOMENT. What’s this? About 30 seconds after swallowing my first bite a gentle spicy heat is starting to envelop my throat and the back of my mouth.
The flavor of chocolate meets the heat of chile powder. A great combination.
The cookies here are great. And so are the raspberry frosted chocolate cupcakes and sugar topped 'Bath Buns'. Go here. Eat. Thank me later.
